of the star gardeners

In the manga story of Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon, the Star Gardeners are Galaxia's most powerful minions. (Galaxia's minions are known as the Animamates). The role of the Star Gardeners, Chi and Phi, are to "harvest" starseeds, or the inner true crystals of senshi in order for Galaxia to obtain power. It is unknown if Chi and Phi willingly joined Galaxia or were forced to.

We first meet Sailorphi in Act 45, reporting to Galaxia that two animamates, Iron Mouse and Aluminum Siren, have failed to obtain any starseeds. Later on, Phi is again seen announcing the arrival of Tin Nyanko to Galaxia. Sailorchi appears in Act 48 along side Phi to kill off Animamates Lethe and Mnemosyne for failing to kill Sailormoon. In Act 48, Chi and Phi also kill off the Sailor Starlights and take their starseeds.

In Act 49, Chi and Phi add the "harvested" starseeds of their kills to Galaxia's Sapphire Crystal. They are given one more chance to kill Sailormoon, whom had escaped. Chi and Phi wait for the arrival of Sailormoon, in their Star Garden, which lies just before Galaxia's palace. They are the last Animamates that Sailormoon must fight.

In this battle, Princess Kakyuu transforms into Sailorkakyuu to fight alongside Sailormoon. Sailorkakyuu is able to deflect off Phi's "Galactica Plant Blizzard!" attack, while Sailormoon uses another attack to kill Phi. However, Sailorkakyuu is in turned killed by Chi, when Chi stabs her moon-sun staff through Kakyuu. Sailormoon kills off Chi using "Starlight Honeymoon Therapy Kiss!"...ending the tale of the Star Gardeners.
